Councils in School

School Council:

At Ashbrow, our pupils feel great pride for the school.  We listen to their views and take 'pupil voice' very seriously.

As part of this, the school councils play a key role in making decisions and ensuring that their views are heard. We currently have one pupil from each class, who represents their class in the school council

The School Council plans money raising events for school and charity and has a 'voice' in school affairs. Representatives have the opportunity to develop leadership skills.

Our Current School Councilors are...

School Council Updates 2023-2024:

December 2023:

  • Potential School Council candidates prepared and read out their manifestos in class and shortly after, all children had an opportunity to vote for the classmate who they thought would make a fantastic School Councilor.
  • Votes were counted and verified and the School Councilors for 2023-2024 were announced!

January 2024:

  • During the first School Council meeting, children were presented with their badges and reminded that with great power, comes great responsibility! We also created a group charter so that everyone fully understood what it means to be a School Councilor at Ashbrow School! Check out our charter, below!

February and March 2024:

  • The Councilors met to discuss opportunities for fund-raising in school. School Councilors were tasked with discussing ideas with their class and feeding back at a future meeting!
  • Miss Hartley asked School Councilors to help out during Science Week's 'The Big Plastic Count', to sort and organise the plastic used and thrown away in school. The data we collected in school was then used as evidence to gather more, game-changing evidence that will push the government to take bold action on plastic! Look at two of our Year 6 Councilors in action!
  • Before Easter, the Council invited Miss Jowett to one of our meetings. We decided that in the Summer Term, the School Council will be preparing pumpkin seeds and runner beans and creating their own stalls to sell these products to children across school in order to raise some money! Watch this space for further updates about this exciting news!
